SUNDAY 30 JUNE 2019 @ ROYAL DOCKS ADVENTURE
According to both legend and history, it is said that the Dragon Boat Festival originated in ancient southern central China some 2,500 years ago along the banks of Yangtze River, around the same era the Olympic Games began in Greece. Today dragon boat racing is one of the most popular water sports both in China and overseas.
Over a decade ago, London Chinatown Lions Club organised the first Dragon Boat Festival in the London Docklands as a fund raiser for Chinese schools around the M25 area. With the support of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the festival will be co-organised by the Hong Kong Executives Club. This event has developed into a major cultural event in the Capital, attracting up to 10,000 attendees each year.
The festival is an excellent chance for everyone to experience Chinese culture, while enjoying the thrill of competing and raising money for charity. Our programme for 2019 promises to be our best yet. The dragon boat racing promises to be as exciting as ever - with 5 different cups up for grabs from a revised, more competitive format. There will be plenty of entertainment, activities and attractions for a great family day out too. A fantastic carnival atmosphere around the festival is guaranteed, especially if the sun is shining! Everyone is encouraged to participate - seasoned paddlers to beginners alike, and together we can make this event successful in every possible way.
